Hungry Ghost Festival

Hungry Hantus Festival falls on the 7th month of the lunar calender, that is, during the month of August.... means NOW!!! Don't look behind your shoulders if you can... cos one of the 'good brothers' could be standing right behind and reading this with you.....

Scared already? Don't worry, this post is not just about scaring the daylights out of you. WAHAHA!

If you are a scaredy cat like me or choose to be safe than sorry, then you'd like to be reminded of what not to do during this creepy month.

1) DO NOT STEP OR MESS AROUND WITH ASHES AND OFFERINGS FOR THE GHOSTS

The ghosts could be 'eating' or claiming the offerings, so if you ever mess around with their 'possessions', they may mess around with you. Whether if you believe it or not but as a form of courtesy to other people's belief, do not fool around with the offerings that they had prepared for their loved ones who had already passed on.

2) NO SWIMMING

There is a common belief among the Chinese that if you swim during the 7th month, the water ghosts will pull you down and drown you. We have been told over the decades that there are higher reports of people getting drowned during this period of time... Believe it or not is up to you!

3) DO NOT SIT ON THE FIRST ROW OF THE 'GE TAIs'

You must understand that the 'ge tais' are set up specially for the 'good brothers', therefore the best seats are left for them. VIPs take the first row so please move to the second row onwards if you want to enjoy the show in peace. LOL!

There's something strange.... In the neighbourhood.... Who do we call??
GHOST BUSTERS!! ~~ I can imagine this is happening at the ge tais already....

4) DO NOT CARRY ANYTHING THAT PRODUCES A 'RING'!

It is believed that if you carry anything that 'rings', eg. bracelet or charm with a bell especially at night... The ghosts will be attracted to the sound and follow you... Back home. :)

Holy please no!

Bell buddy... You better go hiding for 1 month yo!

5) MIND YOUR WORDS
I think this is one of the most important rule of thumb... TO WATCH YOUR TONGUE!! Do not make any unnecessary comments about the 'good brothers' especially during this month. You want to stay out of trouble whether it is true or not anywayz... Right?!!

Last but not least, wad is ghost festival without scaring my fellow readers before they leave my blog?? HEH HEH HEH..... Below is the link of an apparently true story that happened in Japan. Im merciful enough to show you something that happened far away, so enjoy!!

Happy Ghost Festival!
